Locals We Love

I'm a huge believer in positivity and working together.

Alberta is an amazing city full of talent and ingenuity and back when I was thinking about the next incarnation of my paralegal business I would go out for walks to explore local businesses and reflect on why I was drawn to a particular business. Was it the business model? Location? Branding? People? The answer was usually 'yes!' So, I wanted to share a few of the businesses that I have particularly been drawn to. Now, these businesses don't know I'm writing about them or even linking to their websites... That's not the point of this post. I Just wanted to take time and recognize the amazing work of business owners I respect.

Paralegal Plus is proud to have entered into a joint venture with ForSaleByOwner.ca to revolutionize the way real estate is bought and sold in Canada! Together, we offer a seamless, comprehensive real estate selling experience that puts you in the driver's seat during the entire process. When you list your property through the For Sale By Owner portal you are in complete control of everything. Once you've accepted a sale, your portal will also connect you with Paralegal Plus who will ensure your sale closes on time.

Gilbert's Mountain Movers is a story about care and respect for customers. A family-based business owned and operated by two brothers in Calgary, they pride themselves in customer service and a can-do attitude. When I trusted my last move to Gilbert's I had a lot of hesitation. Not because of anything Gilbert's did, rather my own nervousness of trusting someone I didn't know with pretty much all my worldly possessions. Well, I was certainly impressed. The guys were polite and respectful in both what they said and how they did their jobs. It takes a pretty special business owner to have that level of care, and that's what impressed me most.

Headquartered in Calgary, My Normative introduced the world to the first health tracking app with a female-focused lens, helping women track and understand how their hormones impact their activity levels, sleep quality, and more. I haven't yet had the opportunity to meet co-founder Danika Kelley, but Adam and her are longtime personal friends. What I love about My Normative is, first off, female entrepreneurs in STEM right here in Calgary! The second thing I love about the leadership of My Normative is their 'all in' attitude. I can't help but be in awe of the company and am excited to hear more about them in the months and years to come.

FIVEPOINT CANNABIS

FivePoint Cannabis at 945 General Ave. N.E. in Calgary, is locally owned and operated. FivePoint is not only purveyors of great weed but their lovely Bridgeland location showcases Canadian artists and their works. FivePoint is passionate about Canadian cannabis, and its mission is to support our local economy. What I love about FivePoint is back a few years ago, when the cannabis floodgates opened in Alberta, owner Alena Jenkins had this vision of an independent weed. Singlehandedly she faced and conquered the red tape and bureaucracy and opened her boutique. Nothing but props for this ladyboss!

Pascal's Patisserie

Pascal's Patisserie at Unit 1, 205 1 Street E in Cochrane is a textbook case study on how to do one thing really, really well. Pascal's Patisserie is a boutique pastry maker with one passion: The art of the croissant. They are unapologetically awesome at what they do. All I can say is go and try Pascal's for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

ChrisMags is a home-based florist who is keeping up with the "big guys". Unique designs for every occasion, no matter how big or small, ChrisMags offers heartfelt cheer. Each arrangement will be made to instill a feeling of happiness, joy, and amazement. If everyone could approach their jobs with the joy and passion that ChrisMags does, I think the world would just be a better place.

Bridgeland Distillery at 77 Edmonton Trail NE, Calgary is an award-winning premium craft Spirits distillery with a beautiful facility located in the vibrant community of Bridgeland-Riverside. This homegrown brand is growing in recognition. What I respect most about this business was the risk that Jacques & Daniel undertook here, reviving a once home design landmark into an updated landmark for Calgary in the twenty-first century.
